COLONEL INDOOR TRACK TEAMS HEAD TO CANNON INVITATIONAL
RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's indoor track teams will travel to Butler University in Indianapolis, IN, to compete in the Cannon Invitational this weekend.
The Colonels have high hopes, coming off their strong performance at the University of Kentucky Invitational last weekend.
The highlight of the men's side of the meet was the first place finish of freshman James Mutuse in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:29.80. Another highlight included the second place finish of senior David Machungo in the mile run. He had a final clocking of 4:18.50. Also finishing strong was senior JaiDante Burton who finished fourth (48.79) in the 400 meters, and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Burton, Rob Jones, Steve Edwards, and Dan Pallex who placed fourth with a clock time of 3:17.80.
On the women's side, a strong showing all around was highlighted by the second place finish (8.70) of senior Kenyetta Grigsby in the 60 meter hurdles. In other events, freshman Sheri Calhoun placed fourth in the 400 meters with a clocking of 57.34. Senior Davina McCluney had a time of 24.81, finishing fourth in the 200 meters. Rounding out the highlights for the women's meet was the third place finish of the 4 x 400 meter relay team which consists of Sheri Calhoun, Davina McCluney, Chanel Hill and Renata Simmons.
"Hopefully, these people can improve on their strong showings this week at Butler, despite our lack of training," said EKU track coach Rick Erdmann.
