RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's track teams concluded competition at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships earlier this week at Middle Tennessee State University with top four finishes by each team.
The men's track team made an unexpectedly high showing with a fourth-place finish at the OVC meet. Highlighting the event was the EKU domination of the 3,000 and 5,000 meter runs. James Mutuse finished third in the 3,000 and David Machungo won the event with a time of 8:28:84. Mutuse also won the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:33:99.

Also making strong showings for Eastern were Alex Bannister with a third-place finish in the 55 meter hurdles (7.55) and David Machungo with a third-place finish in the mile (4:16).
"I was very pleased to place as high as we did, considering we did not contest in the field events," said EKU head coach Rick Erdmann said of the men's team performance.
Eastern's women's track team's second place performance was highlighted by the EKU domination of the 55-meter hurdles and the mile run. EKU's Lystra Bartholomew came in third, while Kenyetta Grigsby won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.98, which was the fourth best time EKU has ever had in this event.

EKU's distance medley relay team finished strong with a third-place showing (12:49:14), as did the 4 x 400 meter relay team with a fourth-place finish (3:57.53).
