BLOSSOM CHOSEN ON GTE NATIONAL ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN TEAM
RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University senior cross country/track member Sarah Blossom has been selected to the national first-team GTE Academic All-America Women's University Division Fall-Winter Team for 1998-99.
Blossom, a native of Indianapolis, IN, has compiled a 4.00 GPA at Eastern, while majoring in occupational therapy and minoring in psychology. This is the fourth time she has been named to a GTE Academic All-American national team in her career at EKU.
A three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference cross country team member, she was named OVC Female Cross Country Runner of the Year in 1995. She has also won numerous OVC indoor and outdoor track individual titles in the 3000, 5000 and 10,000 meter runs at conference championship meets throughout her four years at Eastern.
Blossom has also received the OVC Academic Medal of Honor three times which signifies the athlete with the highest GPA in that particular sport for an academic year, in addition to being named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll three times.
Other academic honors for Blossom include being selected as a Presidential Scholar and an EKU Colonel Scholar for four years each and being named to the Dean's List four years.
Athletes were chosen to this team from the fall/winter sports of cross country, fencing, field hockey, gymnastics, rifle, skiing, soccer and swimming.
Blossom and her EKU track teammates are gearing up to host the 1999 OVC Men's and Women's Track Championship Meet at Eastern's Tom Samuels Track, April 30-May 1.
