EKU TRACK TEAM MEMBERS HEAD TO PENN RELAYS

RICHMOND, Ky. - The prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA, are up next for the Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's track teams.

Eastern will compete in the men's 4X400 meter relay, the men's and women's distance medley relays, the women's 4X400 meter relay and numerous other individual competition.

EKU is coming off an impressive showing at the Virginia Tech Invitational where they won six events and produced strong finishers in all of the others in which the Colonels competed.

Senior Jamie King of Botkins, OH, led the Eastern contingent at Virginia Tech by winning three events. She took the 800 meters (2:13.51), the 1,500 meters (4:32.48) and the 3,000 meters (10:10.77), all in one day of competition.

Junior Kenyetta Grigsby won the 100 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.93.

Another strong finisher in women's competition included freshman Kathleen Dodsworth who captured second place in the discus throw with an EKU record-breaking toss of 163-5. The women's 4X100 meter relay team also finished in second place with a time of 47.44.

In men's competition, senior Shawn Afflick won the 400 meters (48.61) and sophomore Ryan Parrish won the 3,000 meters (8:47.39). Senior Daniel Blochwitz turned in a strong finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a second place time of 54.81.

"I was extremely pleased with the both teams' performance, especially considering the cold and the wind they had to endure," said EKU head track coach Rick Erdmann.
