Rick Erdmann

Head Track and Cross Country Coach

Rick Erdmann is beginning his 19th season as head track and cross country coach at Eastern Kentucky University. The Ligonier, PA native has been chosen the Ohio Valley Conference's "Coach of the Year" in track and cross country 31 times since his arrival at EKU in 1979. He has been selected Cross Country "Coach of the Year" 26 times out of a possible 32 opportunities.

He is a 1964 graduate of Ashland(Ohio) College where he was a sprinter. Erdmann completed his master's degree in physical education at EKU in 1966.

Under Erdmann's guidance, Eastern's women's teams have captured nine Ohio Valley Conference track titles and 16 consecutive cross country crowns. He has led the men's team to ten OVC cross country championships and three track titles.

Erdmann came to Eastern from Hagerstown (MD) Junior College where he had served as head track and cross country coach from 1971-79. He was selected as the 1979 National Junior College Coach of the Year after guiding his team to second place finish in the National Junior College Championship meet.

While coaching several junior college All-Americans and individual national champions at Hagerstown, he put together the third fastest mile relay team in the East in 1979. Erdmann has worked several track and cross country camps during the summer months. He has also made several presentations on the aspects of training.
