OVC TRACK MEET TO BE HELD AT EKU FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University's Tom C. Samuels Track will be the site of the 1999 Ohio Valley Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track Championships Friday and Saturday (April 30-May 1).

EKU's track facility has been undergoing renovation this spring and should be ready for the competitive two-day meet that will bring in athletes from all 10 OVC schools.

"This should be two days of great competition. We're hoping our teams will compete at the top of their ability and we can finish as high as possible in the final point standings," said EKU head track coach Rick Erdmann.

Friday's activity begins at 4:30 p.m. with the javelin, long jump, high jump and shot put competition in the infield. The first running event will be the women's 10,000-meter run at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's 10,000-meter run at 6:10 p.m. The last event scheduled Friday is the men's 200-meter dash trials at 9:50 p.m.

Action begins Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the discus and triple jump competition and concludes at 4:15 p.m. with the men's 4X400 meter relay.

Eastern Illinois is the defending OVC men's outdoor track champion, while Southeast Missouri edged EKU for the women's title in 1998. Eastern Kentucky took the 1999 OVC women's indoor title, while EIU was the indoor champ for men at the OVC meet in February.

There is no charge for admission to either day of OVC Track competition.
