TRACK TEAMS HEAD TO VIRGINIA TECH SATURDAY

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University track teams will travel to Blacksburg, VA, Saturday (April 17) to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational. The Colonel tracksters have not competed at Virginia Tech before, but are looking forward to the meet.

"Our team is performing pretty well and we are expecting a good showing at the Virginia Tech meet," said EKU track coach Rick Erdmann.

Last weekend, EKU made an appearance in the University of Tennessee Sea-Ray Relays in Knoxville, TN, with several quality performances turned in by Colonel athletes.

Senior Jamie King of Botkins, OH, continued her productive outdoor season by winning the 1,500-meters, bettering the NCAA provisional mark again, this time in 4:21.35 fashion. She beat numerous quality runners in this event, including last year's Ohio Valley Conference 1,500-meter champion.

Other top finishers for the women included freshman Kathleen Dodsworth who broke the EKU discus record for the fourth time this year with a throw of 160-1 in placing sixth in this event, while the distance medley relay team of Celestina Ogbolugo, Davina McCluney, Pauline Mitchell and Jamie King captured first place in a time of 11:30.31.

In men's action, junior David Machungo topped EKU finishers with a fourth place in the 5,000 meters (15:09.15). The sprint medley relay team finished seventh with a time of 3:25.43, while the 4X400 meter relay unit also placed seventh in a time of 3:11.10, a season's best for the Colonels.
