COLONEL CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS HAVE WEEK OFF BEFORE GOING TO LOYOLA
RICHMOND, Ky. - Coach Rick Erdmann's Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's cross country teams have this week free from competition as they prepare for the Loyola University Invitational in Chicago, Oct. 2.
Both EKU teams are coming off impressive second-place finishes at Western Kentucky University's Old Timers Meet last weekend in Bowling Green.
"I was particularly pleased with the men's team's performance, especially since this was their first five-mile race," said Erdmann. "We are still in the process of getting some of the guys in shape, but, overall, I was happy with the results."
Senior Mohammed Khayr of Fairfax, VA, the Ohio Valley Conference Men's Runner of the Week, led Eastern with his third-place finish in a time of 25:43, followed closely by teammate David Machungo in fourth at 25:51.
Jenni Brown, a senior from Salem, OH, led the women's team with her second-place finish in a time of 17:43 and was selected as the OVC Women's Runner of the Week for this effort. Other top five finishers for Eastern included Theresa Olsen, fourth, 17:59, and Heather Davel, fifth, 18:10.
